September 11th

UPDATE:  9/11/08 -- One of my favorite friends posted the most amazing "Remember" post on her blog-- go check it out at: http://talesofabusyhousewife.blogspot.com/

They say you never forget something that impacts your life: The Space shuttle explosion, when the Berlin wall came down, hearing of the death of a loved one, a beloved family dog, when you realized you were in love, your first kiss, marriage proposal, when you found out you were pregnant, the birth of your children, miscariages, and significant events that change how your view your freedom. As we get closer to that infamous date, known by all, with personal significance to each of us: "9/11" several thoughts come to mind. Not only political thoughts--due to it being an election year, but how grateful I am to live in this great country-- we take so much for granted.

I was getting Ry ready for school-- almost time to leave and the phone rang. Sheila asked if we had our TV on, I said no. We turned it on. HH and I sat in amazement, I cried, wondering what the hell was happening. HH took Ry to school, much to my dismay-- I wanted my family with me-- not out in the world where bad things happen. Meanwhile--the phone started ringing. Friends wondering if I had the news on. Ty and I spent the day at a friends house watching as we questioned what was to come from this. The agony for the lives that were lost, the bravery of the rescue workers,  the fear, the people running out of the buildings, the incredible debree, the unsurity as to what was to come. But I also remember the unity our country felt shortly after this tragic event, I remember the love I had for our leaders and fore-fathers, the freedoms we have and the knowledge that we were OK, especially knowing that the Lord was in control. I wish that unity was still a evident part of being American--that we felt it daily instead of only in the face of tragedy. I worry and wonder what in store for us as Americans and hope that as were continue to prosper, we can remember that we can only do so in obedience to the Lords desires.

Sappy I know, but I have so much to be grateful for and as we come to this anniversary, I am reminded of how great a life I live.

Where were you? Your thoughts?

Hmmm... that would have been getting ready for school junior year, and then doing nothing for the eight hours I was actually in school because every classroom is equipped with a TV and it was on every period. I remember a few kids had relatives that worked in the towers, but fortunately none of them were hurt we found out. That was the longest day of school ever, just switching desks every hour. I just wish that it didnt take such bad things to pull americans together.

In the car on my way to work. Turned on the radio and started hearing some sketchy info about a plane hitting the WTC. I was a little confused, didn't really realize what was happening, thought maybe it was some sort of accident. Then I got to work and heard the news that the second plane had hit. That was when the confusion became shock and horror and outrage. All I wanted to do was go home.
